Let me tell you a little about the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. We weren’t the cleanest, oldest corps, and we were aware of that and tried to do everything in our power to change that. But just because we didn’t have those factors in our summer, we still sure as hell put as much effort and heart into everything we did in the show as much as any other drum corps, top-twelve and even lower than us. We were a family, we had our disputes as well as the little moments where we all felt closer than ever. None of this was different for us just because we didn’t make it to finals. Our show got a standing ovation every single time we went on that field for people, making us and the audience feel good, maybe for just those few moments, but we made people feel good. We entertained people like no other Jersey Surf ever had. The Jersey Surf changed drum corps whether you think so or not. We all miss each other like crazy like any other corps. And our age-outs had a damn good show and last performance to end their DCI performance lives with. We are a family, we try as hard as anyone else, and we certainly left it all on the field. So next time you think about criticizing any “lowers world class corps”, think about how nothing but the scores separate us.
